Ireland’s former Permanent Representative to the European Union, Rory Montgomery, has joined public affairs firm Vulcan Consulting as a Special Advisor. Rory’s long experience working at the highest levels of diplomacy in Ireland and the EU will complement the existing Vulcan team which comprises former Government Ministers, EU officials, policy makers, industry leaders, communications professionals and experienced political and regulatory affairs consultants.
As Ireland’s Permanent Representative to the European Union from 2009 – 2013 Rory was involved in the ratification and implementation of the Lisbon Treaty, the response to the euro area crisis, the negotiation of the 2013-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework. He led on the planning and running of the 2013 Irish Presidency, during which he chaired Coreper (the committee of Member State Ambassadors).He subsequently served as Ambassador to France and then as Second Secretary General, Department of the Taoiseach, with responsibility for EU affairs. From 2016 until his retirement in August he was Second Secretary General in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade dealing with EU affairs, in particular Brexit.
